Beauty and the Beast: A Memory

July 27th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Beauty and the Beast, Broadway on TV, Closing on Broadway, Live Performances, Special Appearances, Special Performances, Television Appearances

Beauty and the Beast will be closing on Sunday, July 29. Today we’re looking back at a performance from the 1994 Tony Awards

(Note: Thank you to the folks that alerted me to the typo. In my rush to pre-post before leaving for vacation, I had fat-fingered and written the performance year as 2004. It is obvious that it wasn’t 2004, but instead 1994. Sorry for the error.)

Enjoy!

The beginning kind of reminds me of a melowdrama, seeing the faces up so close. Cool video. Seems older than 2004, tho. What were they performing for? The show’s a lot older than that. It’s also worth noting that the video was recorded back when the show was good. I saw it with Donny Osmond and it was terrible. Osmond couldn’t sing or act the part of Gaston very well and their Belle could sing but could not act. Even their Lefou stunk. What was most dispointing to me was that the show lacked energy, especially the chorus. It’s too bad. I think I would have enjoyed it more with Vanderpool. I saw it when I was 10 in LA with Jodi what’s her name, I think it was. Loved it as a kid. I still love the music, just wish the broadway show had more oomph to to it.

This is a great video but you have the date alittle wrong. This is actually from the 1994 Tony Awards with Susan Egan as Belle and Terrance Mann as the Beast.
