I had lunch with a friend and the time got away from me. It may be a bit late for some of you, but I thought I’d mention that today’s episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” (May 16) is supposed to have featured the cast of the film adaptation of the musical “Hairspray.”

(Yes, that is John Travolta dressed as a woman.)
The cast includes Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma von Tussel, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Elijah Kelly as Seaweed, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton and Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.
According to Playbill.com, “Hairspray” is based on the musical Hairspray, currently playing at New York’s Neil Simon Theatre. In turn, the stage production is based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same title. The new film is scheduled to premiere in movie theaters across the country this summer.
Visit www.oprah.com for more information, and to see if this is still airing in your area. If not, try to catch it when it reruns!
