Were you able to catch the MTV premiere of Legally Blonde: The Musical on October 13 & 14?
If you did, you were one of 1.27 million viewers– an amazing statistic since the Palace Theatre only seats 1,743 audience members!
What did you think of it?
(If not, you’re not alone. I don’t have cable, so I wasn’t able to catch it. Did anyone record it, by any chance?)
Variety reports “MTV was pleased with the debut of Legally Blonde: The Musical, as Saturday’s afternoon premiere averaged 1.27 million viewers and drew more persons 12-34 than any other program in its [1-4 PM] timeslot.”
Playbill reports that “young women ages 12-17 were the highest demographic of viewers…”
According to Playbill:
The musical was filmed a total of three times — once in its entirety, another without an audience, and a Sept. 18 filming with an audience of theatregoers ages 15-25. That performance took on a more interactive feel with the entire orchestra section full of pink-clad fans. […] The MTV broadcast features the Broadway musical in its entirety as well as behind-the-scenes footage and a pre-show, celebrity- studded ‘pink carpet.’”
Press notes describe the show:
Legally Blonde follows sorority star Elle Woods, who doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more ’serious,’ Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.
Legally Blonde was nominated for 7 Tony Awards during the 2007 season, and its cast recording is one of the top selling cast recordings on the charts!
