Mel Brooks’ The Producers Closes on Broadway

April 24th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Mel Brooks, The Producers

Mel Brooks’ musical The Producers played its last performance on April 22nd, just three days after its sixth anniversary on Broadway (April 19, 2001).

The Producers has been a record-breaking musical, winning 12 Tony Awards– the largest number of Tony Awards ever awarded to a Broadway show so far!

Since 2001, it has played 2,502 performances, and an additional 33 preview performances during its time on Broadway at St. James Theatre.

Mel Brooks fans need not worry, though, as his classic 1974 film comedy “Young Frankenstein” is set to become a musical. Young Frankenstein will also feature The Producers director and choreographer Susan Stroman. Young Frankenstein will be opening later this year.
