Fans of the hit Broadway musical Wicked should tune in to this afternoon’s episode of the over-the-top spoof-tastic NBC soap opera, “Passions.”
Why? Because every year or so, “Passions” does a spoof on a musical, complete with a song-and-dance number. This time they’re spoofing Wicked, specifically the song “What Is This Feeling (Loathing),” with a touch of “Popular.” (Their renditions are called “Perfectly Frightful” and “Fabulous.” You can view a preview by clicking here (the video is located on the top right-hand corner).
Actress Georgia Engel, most recently seen on Broadway in The Drowsy Chaperone, will be appearing, playing the grow-up Good Witch Esmeralda, an old school rival of Tabitha, the show’s 300-year old witch.
Melissa Fahn portrays the young Esmeralda (likened to Wicked’s Glinda). Fahn was an original Broadway understudy for Wicked’s Glinda and is currently featured in the Los Angeles cast of Wicked.
Here is the scoop from Soaps.com:
Sitcom veteran Georgia Engel, best known for roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Everybody Loves Raymond, will be arriving on the set to play Esmeralda, Tabitha’s old schoolmate and one time rival in wickedness. Now Esmeralda has gone over to the good side and become the most powerful good witch in the world. How will little Endora feel when she is confronted with this new role model after Tabitha takes her on a trip to the good witch school? We’ll see..
Tune in today, June 29, at 2PM Eastern Time for this rendition of Wicked, soap opera-style!
