The latest Mel Brooks comedy to be brought to life as a musical, Young Frankenstein, begins its official pre-broadway run this evening, August 23 at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. It began previews on August 7, and is due to run through September 1.
Young Frankenstein will then move to Broadway’s Hilton Theatre, opening for previews on October 11, and officially open to the public on November 8. Seattle’s Paramount Theatre will host the pre-Broadway run and world-premiere of Young Frankenstein from Aug. 7 through Sept. 1.
Press notes describe it thus:
“Based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film, Young Frankenstein is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. When Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his grandfather, deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein, he faces a dilemma. Does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga?
“Unfolding in the forbidding Castle Frankenstein and the foggy moors of Transylvania Heights, the show’s raucous score includes ‘The Transylvania Mania,’ ‘He Vas My Boyfriend’ and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin’s ‘Puttin’ On the Ritz.’”
The cast is as follows:
Roger Bart (Dr. Frederick Frankenstein)
Megan Mullally (Elizabeth)
Sutton Foster (Inga)
Shuler Hensley (The Monster)
Andrea Martin (Frau Blucher)
Fred Applegate (Kemp)
Christopher Fitzgerald (Igor)

I saw it during the first week of previews and was surprised by how Broadway ready it already was. It’s hysterically funny and will be a ginormous hit!

I saw it - was great, though wouldn’t pay as much as they are charging on Broadway for it.

I wish I could see it, Maybe I should just plan a New Your trip because it doesn’t look like this one will make it to Tennessee.
